At the IAA, German manufacturer Opel surprised with its Frogster fun-car, a cheeky concept vehicle that is slightly reminiscent of the legendary Laubfrosch (tree frog), a successful model built in the 1920s that holds an important place in Opel's 140-year history. The Frogster and the Signum2, Opel's second IAA concept vehicle, illustrate the company's new brand profile and future product direction. "They are tokens of our intention to bring innovation to every segment," said Carl-Peter Forster, Opel's new Chairman. "Opel will renew the whole core Opel passenger car program within the next five years. In addition, we are planning to introduce a host of innovative, segment-defining products and variants, which will eventually make up 50 percent of our portfolio entries."
Forster believes the course is set to strengthen Opel's position and to positively change the brand's image. "Since the last Frankfurt Motor Show only two years ago, we have successfully introduced new core products, while exciting and sporty niche models, such as the Astra Coupe, the Astra Cabrio, and the Speedster, have rounded up the portfolio."
The success story of the Astra Eco 4 will be continued with the Corsa Eco. With an emission of only 120 grams of CO2 per 100 kilometers and fuel consumption of less than five liters per 100 kilometers, it is the most economical gasoline-powered car Opel has ever built. It characterizes Opel's philosophy to offer customers state-of-the-art but affordable technology in terms of fuel efficiency and the environment. As with the Eco series, Opel is also going to expand the OPC performance brand, illustrated by the Zafira OPC premiering on the stand.
